Situational Dialogue 1

Mr.Chang,the sales manager of Baiyun Garment Company,is waiting at the International Arrivals Hall of the airport. He is receiving a foreign visitor,Ms.Jones who is from the Crown Garment Trading Company of America. Mr.Chang holds a large sign,reading “Welcome Ms.Jones”. Ms.Jones sees the sign,and goes towards him.

Mr.Chang:Hello. Are you Ms.Jones from the United States?

Ms. Jones:Yes,I’m Mary Jones from the Crown Garment Trading Company.

Mr.Chang:My name is Chang Jianhua. I’m the sales manager with Baiyun Sweaters. How do you do,Ms.Jones?

Ms. Jones:How do you do?It’s very nice of you to come to meet me.

Mr.Chang:You’re welcome. The pleasure is mine,Ms. Jones.

Ms. Jones:Oh,thank you. You’re very kind.

Mr.Chang:How was your flight,Ms. Jones?

Ms. Jones:Very nice. The service on board was superb. And I managed a few hours’ sleep.

Mr.Chang:I’m glad to hear that. Oh,let me help you with your luggage.

Ms. Jones:Thank you.(Hands a suitcase to Mr.Chang.)

Mr.Chang:Is this your first visit to China?

Ms. Jones:No. But it’s my first visit to Guangzhou. I hope it won’t be my last.

Mr.Chang:I hope you will have a pleasant stay here.

Ms. Jones:I’m sure I will.

Mr.Chang:Our car is out in the parking lot. Shall we drive to your hotel now?

Ms. Jones:Yes,thank you. Let’s go.

Mr.Chang:This way,please.

(They walk out of the Hall and head for the parking lot and then drive to the hotel.)

Mr.Chang:Here we are,Ms.Jones. This is the Baiyun Hotel. We’ve reserved the room for you on the 5th floor with a balcony overlooking the park.

Ms. Jones:Thank you very much. It’s very considerate of you.

Mr.Chang:Well,that’s the least we could do.

Mr.Chang:This is your room,Ms. Jones. Is it OK?

Ms. Jones:Oh,yes,it’s lovely,very cozy and well-decorated!It’s really very thoughtful of you to have arranged it for me.

Mr.Chang:Not at all. Well,Ms. Jones,you must be very tired after your long trip. Is there anything else we can do for you?

Ms. Jones:No,thanks. Not at the moment.

Mr.Chang:Then,I’ll be leaving now so that you can settle in. After all,we’ll have enough time for business during the next days.

Ms. Jones:Thank you.

Mr.Chang:You’re welcome. We’ll contact you tomorrow morning.

Ms. Jones:See you then.

Mr.Chang:See you!

A:Good morning,Sir. Can I help you?

B:Yes. I’d like to see Mr.David,please.

A:Do you have an appointment,Sir?

B:No,I don’t. But I’ll take just a few minutes of his time.

A:Can I have your name,please?

B:My name is Tony White. And here’s my card.

A:Thanks. I’m sorry,Mr.White. Mr.David is busy at the moment,and can I ask what you wish to see him about?

B:I’d prefer to explain the matter to him myself.

A:I’m sorry,Mr.White. I’m told to get that information from every visitor.

B:All right. I’d like to see Mr.David about a new product our company has developed.

A:What kind of product,Mr.White?

B:An air purifier.

A:Just a moment. Mr.White,I’ll see if Mr.David is interested in your products.

B:Thank you.

A:I’m afraid Mr.David can not see you now. But he is interested in your products,and can meet you at 10:00 tomorrow morning. Would that be convenient for you?

B:Yes. I’ll come again tomorrow.

A:Thank you for coming. See you tomorrow.

A:I’m Alice White. I’ll be your guide on the tour today.

B:Nice to meet you,Miss Alice.

A:Nice to meet you,too. We’ll start with the assembly line.

B:A very advanced assembly line,isn’t it?Was it introduced from abroad?

A:Yes,our production has been raised 30% since this assembly line was introduced from Germany three years ago.

B:That’s great. What is that building?

A:The building is our Research and Development Center.

B:Very attractive.

A:Some areas are closed to visitors.

B:I understand. How many workers do you have here?

A:Around 45. This is our executive dining hall. Shall we have some lunch?

B:Yes. The walking made me hungry.

A:After lunch,I’ll take you to meet the vice president in charge of sales.

B:I’d also like to get acquainted with your distribution system.

A:Sure. You can talk to our distribution manager.

B:Thank you very much for the tour today,Miss Alice.

A:Glad you enjoyed it,Mr.White. Please visit us again.
